Cube Wallpaper - AS3 and Flex API Posters

DIGG IT!     51 Comments Published Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 11:53 AM .

There are 3 API posters available at MAX and I just posted the PDF versions of these posters to Flex.org! The posters provide a visual map of the class inheritance in Flex and AS3, exposing all methods, properties, and events. I cannot wait to wallpaper my cube in these posters.

ActionScript 3 API PDF at Flex.org

Flex 2 Framework API PDF at Flex.org

Again if you want high quality posters, they are going to be available at MAX.

Regards,

Ted :)

    Hey Ted,
I get errors trying to open the pdf files within acrobat reader: "A drwaing error occurred." Anyone else come across this? I've tried downloading them multiple times. I'd love to take a look at these.

  6. # Blogger Josh Tynjala

Oh sweet. I'll be all over these! Too bad my cube isn't quite a cube. I don't think I have room if they're as big as you're hinting.

If anything, I can geek out my office at home.

    Hi Ted,

for those who are will not be attending MAX, will they become available to purchase somewhere? Adobe shop for instance?

    Thanks,

    Sid

To Andrew: I have the drawing error aswell, i have reader version 7.0.0
The Flex PDF takes a while to crash, the AS3 crashes instantly.

    Cheers,

    Sidney

    Hello Ted,

both pdf files throw an error when opening. Has anyone been able to open the files in Adobe Reader? I'm using version 6.0.

Can I buy the posters online anywhere?

  10. # Anonymous Steve Webster

Hi All. These are perfect for me in Adobe Reader 7.0.8 on Mac OS X, though they don't render at all using Preview.

  11. # Anonymous Anonymous

I'd also like to know if I will be able to buy these anywhere if I'm not able to make it to MAX.

    -Jason

For some reason I'm also unable to view them (in Preview on OS X)...

I'm also interested in knowing whether they'll be available for purchase from Adobe.

    Thanks for the heads-up, Ted!

I am working to find an online printer where you can order the posters on-demand in small runs. The problem is the size they are just huge and most printers do not support them.

Adobe doesn't want to make any money on these items on principal. I wish they were free, I want them to be free, and will work hard to find a way to make them free. I appreciate the feedback from the community on this. Posting the PDF source was the best alternative but is not a good final solution.

Will you bring some of those to Max 2006 Taiwan and sell it there ? thanks.

    Hi Ted,

I'm interested in a FlashPaper versión. Could we get it from some url?

    Thanks!

  16. # Anonymous David R

I think the problem is you encoded the PDF files with some kind of security, or password, or encryption. Please try saving them again without these DRM things on it, since you say you want it to be free. You'd think Adobe themselves would be able to produce valid PDF files. I can't wait to be able to get a hold of these, thanks!

    Error Opening the file:
The files has security or password.

Can you post them again, unsecured?

  18. # Anonymous David R

Ok, I think I figured it out, and here are some 'fixed' versions of the PDFs. I wont guarantee that they will work, or even have the same quality, but a quick inspection looks like everything is fine: (includes both)

    Download Posters

Looking at the document properties I can see that the PDFs are version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x or better needed).
That's why they are not viewable in older versions of Adobe Reader or by using the Preview from OS X.

  20. # Blogger Falken

Yeah, the fixed downloads are fine (kpdf on Linux). You should update the main story links.

I'd certainly be interested in some sort of short-run online printing (to the UK), as spending several thousend quid to get to the US and the conference ain't gonna happen :-)

  21. # Anonymous Anonymous

I didn't try David R's posters. I've had the same problem (drawing error occured) with reader v7.0.0 . Upgrading to 7.0.8 solved the problem

  22. # Blogger xeal

I am really happy about these PDFs (I was waiting for them since June :)) so I submitted the story to Digg.
Now you guys digg it and let's help promoting this thing! ;)

  23. # Anonymous Tink

    These are a great idea.

    1. All us peeps who are passionate about the Flash Platform can geek out and drool over big posters.

    2. If you can actually read one of these from your workstation, it could save a lot of time referencing the help material.

    3. Adobe get to blaze their logo over lots of office space!

  24. # Anonymous Mick

Ted, where can I order these internally? I'm not going to MAX :(

  25. # Anonymous Anonymous

Hi Ted, I would also love to order these, since i cannot make it to MAX.

  26. # Anonymous Hans

From the PDF doc properties, it looks like the ActionScript 3.0 Class Diagram is one 40"x28" poster and the Flex Framework Diagram is two 48"x36" posters. Very nice.

Ted, to clarify is it $20 or $30 for all three posters?

I'd love free posters like anyone else, but $10 is really a pretty sweet deal for a print at this size. Large format printers typically charge $25-75 per print for on demand at this size!

  27. # Anonymous Anonymous

    Damn....

    I need a bigger office :p

    Hi Ted,

We're a danish flash forum who're trying to print the AS3 poster. What is the best size for the it?

    Thanks!

I can't make it to the MAX2006, so how can I get a copy of those API posters. I took them to Kinko's and they won't print them for fear of copyright infringment.

    Do you have ordering info?

  32. # Anonymous Jeremy Rottman

I also have to miss max this year. Is there going to be some place to order these. I would love to have a set for my office. Would fit well with my other posters.

  33. # Anonymous JBOY

Thnx David for fixing the download.

  34. # Anonymous Anonymous

Is it me, or is everyone asking how to buy these posters and noone is answering? Where can we buy the *(&#! posters?

  35. # Anonymous iuliub

    Really impressed!

  36. # Anonymous gwiz

Well fellas, looks like we gotta print em ourselves.

  37. # Anonymous Anonymous

    we need t-shirts.

  38. # Anonymous Anonymous

Will those posters be updated for Flex 2.0.1 ? Some classes are changed.

  39. # Anonymous David R

The actionscript 3 poster is available on zazzle.com. Prints very nice. Text isn't perfectly clear, but it gets the job done and provides a cool visual.

  41. # Anonymous Matthias

Nice set of posters - and hopefully shipping in those seconds directly to our agency :)

  42. # Anonymous Torben

Yea really enjoying this nice posters - lookin good at my wall =)

  43. # Anonymous Cosmin

there's a typo in the first picture (i believe it's a typo....). instead of IPropertyChangeNotifier it's written IProperyChangeNotifier

  44. # Anonymous Anonymous

I keep getting a 'bad encrypt dictionary' error when I try to open them

  45. # Anonymous Cosmin

just received my posters! thank you ted!

  46. # Blogger Sarge

Some of us could not make it to MAX - is there a plan to sell these? Thanks! sgtpritchard at gmail.com - pixelfumes

  47. # Anonymous Anonymous

I had mine printed at a FedEx Kinko's that prints signage. It is costly, for roughly $7 per sq ft, it comes out to be around $215 to have these printed at full size on a high gloss material. However, I have certainly found the price justified, plus they look and function great!

  48. # Anonymous Chris Charlton

Seems the PDF's are blank?! Maybe download issue?

  49. # Anonymous jalava

These files are password protected, therefore I cannot open them in photoshop which is required if you want to print them with non-postscript printer.

    Any help?

  50. # Blogger dnk

will there be an updated version for flex 3?
