Merheba from Ankara, Turkey!

After a short stop in Munich, we arrived on Friday in Ankara, Turkey (GMT +2). We will be living and working here for the next 3 years thanks to my wife's work. I will post some photos of our travels as we explore Turkey and the surrounding region.&

This place is amazing and the Turkish people are so kind and generous. Turkish hospitality is truly impressive and we have had nothing but a great experience thus far. From our

We did some shopping on Saturday while still recovering from jet-lag. I got a GSM TurkCell account for my Nokia 6680 with Internet and messaging. We also stopped by a computer store and bought a ADSL modem. Turk Telekom had me connected this morning and with a 2024/515 Kbps connection I have nothing to complain about.

The food is amazing. A great lunch costs $3-4US (Kebab/Rice/Salad/Drink) and the grocery produce is so fresh compared to the states. We bought some peaches at a stand 1 block from our house and they are the best peaches I have ever had at 6 for $.50.

I am looking forward to exploring Turkey. It is a magical place and worth a visit.

More to come,

Ted :)

Wow that sounds great! We would love to live abroad, but we've always been worried about how to deal with our pets (1 dog, 2 cats). Did you have any pets to deal with?

    Brent,

Our two siamese cats had a rough transition. The problem was that we transited the EU. Both cats had to have RF Ids and had to have a mountain of paperwork. In the end, I do not think anyone looked at any of the paperwork.

It also depends on the country.

    Welcome to the area!
I am living in North Romania. That is north of Turkey at the same Black Sea.

Enjoy the scenery because it's really great.
About the fruits, they are all better that US. No rapid growth stuff and such to make the taste go away. All my friends that went from here to US say that the food there is horrible. Mostly tasteless.

    So dig in.
And watch out for the turks. They are friendly but it's mostly because you are a tourist and have money.

    so I hear...

    cheers,
    cosmin

Considering the generocity and assistance I have witnessed in the past few days, I am seeing a different Turkey than your description.

If only other countries would adopt this level of hospitality, the world would be a better place.

    My 2 cents,

    Ted ;)

    Merhaba (Hello), Hosgeldin (welcome) Ted!

Cosmin, he's in Turkey and you say watch out for the Turks(!) - I would consider this an insult.

Sure there are bad people here in Turkey, like everywhere else... Nobody should watch out for a race or a nation.

    Best regards,
    Burak

6 peaches for $50? that's the kind of people whom you should look out for. Like the German salesman who didn't except my change while I was paying for bread. It's tough being a human, let alone a Turk. I hope you enjoy your 3 years in Ankara. I've been living in Ankara for one year and I have no complaints either!
    Have a nice day =)

Zeynep read carefully, price for peaches is only $.50 "0.50"
